For Friday 8:30

Hello all,

Thanks so much for the engaging class today. We began class by exploring our "monsters" i.e. our shadows.

Our Knowledge nugget focused on exploring "The Offshore Pirate" through making claims, evidence, and warrants. We discussed how we make a claim or an observation about a topic, then we use evidence to support or to clarify the claim, and then we use a warrant to interprets the evidence and shows how it supports your claim. We each created a claim, evidence, and warrant for the story, and then we used these statements to discuss the story.

Here are Matt's Claim, Evidence, and Warrant:

Claim: Ardita just wanted to go to Palm Beach.

Evidence: She refused to do anything anyone else wanted to do until she was taken to Palm Beach

Warrant: Because Ardita is refusing to do anything until she goes to Palm Beach, she gets in a large argument with her family.

Here is a link to help you as we continue to explore this topic. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/english/mwollaeger/cdw.htm

We then shifted to discussing our drafts of project one. At this point, I have given you feedback on the drafts (click on the say and post link for the audio link). You will need to examine the comments and questions that I inserted in your text. Look at these areas and then generate a plan for revision from the feedback. Your plan should list two areas of strength where you feel you have completed a solid portion of your text. Following this area, you should explain why you feel these areas are strong and comprehensive. Next, your plan should focus on two areas where you need to further develop your ideas and writing. Following these areas, you need to explain to your reader how you will address and refine these areas in your text. We started working on this in class.

For Friday:

Read-N/a

Write-Revision plan (2 strengths with why and 2 areas for improvement with How)
Revise your drafts based on comments

Do-Post revision plan on blog
Post your revised draft on google.doc for Peer Review on Friday.

Thanks so much, and take care,

Kat
