For Friday (11:45)

Hello all,

Today we started our class of by going on a journey with a knight. Following this journey, we connected our pride and self-worth to evidence in the exercise. We then continued on towards looking at how we evaluate our selves and others in regards to writing.

We spent a considerable amount of time "norming" in class. I distributed three paragraphs from similar writing assignments and we first read them and reacted by placing them in good, okay, and needs work areas. As a class, we agreed that the first one was the one that required the most work and that the other two were between good and okay.

We then transitioned to looking at the three paragraphs in connection with our class assessment tool. We carefully moved through the three paragraphs and created ranges in relation to the rubric. We decided that the first paragraph was 50-65 and then we decided that the second paragraph was a 75-80 and that the last paragraph was a 85-94.

Lastly, we focused on understanding a class understanding of the three samples. We gave 1 paragraph a d/f, 2 paragraph a c/b, and 3 paragraph a b/a. Remember to refer to this sheet as you move through your peer evaluation and your self evaluation this weekend.

You need to evaluate your peer using the rubric. You need to give your peer a "evaluation" for each of the four areas along with a justification for that decision. Remember, you will probably need to read you peer's draft a few times before "assigning" an evaluation.

Next, you need to evaluate yourself. Give yourself an "evaluation" and then list one method or area which you could improve in the text. Remember, you can always revise for a better grade so use this as the opportunity to be critical.

For Monday,

Read: Vogler 107-125 (For Monday)
Kafka Book II (For Weds.)

Write: Vogler Annotation.
Peer Evaluation (why?)
Self-Evaluation (How you could improve?)

Do: Post Vogler on Blog
Bring peer and self evaluation sheet to class on Monday.

Thanks so much and have a great weekend.

Take care,

Kat
